Dorm, Sweet Dorm.

Well that concludes my San Diego weekend excursion. It was great to escape Gainesville and see the west coast for the first time. It was also wonderful to see my mom for the first time since Christmas. Besides the zoo, we went to the beach, out to fondue, took a ferry to an island and rode around and shopped, hung out at a local cafe (with wifi), and went gambling for the first time at an indian casino. I was balancing back and forth between time zones all weekend not really getting adjusted to either. It's nice to be back in good ol' EST and near beaches with water that isn't 60 degrees (on a warm day). I'd have to say the highlight of the trip (besides seeing my mom of course) was on the way home, during my layover in Phoenix this afternoon. This guy was talking really loudly on his cell phone, and nobody had anything better to do but listen (well, actually I was trying to read DWWS but I was distracted). I assume this guy is talking to his daughter chitter-chattering away, then hangs up. A minute later it rings again, and in a really, really loud response he says "ABBY, YOU CALLED ME TO ASK IF YOU CAN HAVE MUSTARD ON YOUR HOT DOG?". It was hilarious, and I looked around to see everyone trying to hold in their laughter.

I completely admire Mark Pilgrim for his writing abilities. I just learned today via "Under the Iron" that he too was fired for his blog (due to this entry). I wonder how many people this will happen to as blogs gain more and more popularity. I recall it happening to Dooce as well. Do you think employers have a right to do this? I mean it's one thing for employers to censor if its a company hosted website, but on your own blog? I'm not too sure what Dooce was fired for, but Mark was fired because his boss told him to take down the entry on being addicted (he had already been clean) because he was afraid that it would hurt the image of the company if a client wandered onto diveintomark.org

Then again, his website did help him get a job two weeks later :)

Also, go check out Scott Johnson's Fuzzyblog. Hes presenting 30 features in 30 days for his RSS Searching engine Feedster. This first one is the ability to search Feedster via IM. I'm looking forward to the other 29!

About the guys daughter calling to ask him if she could have mustard on her hotdog...

I knew this lady who's 10 y/o kid called her at work to ask if he could have a cookie, then an hour later he'd call back and ask to have another. It was funny but anoying for the mother, he was just so clingy and he'd never leave her alone.
