I think what is phasing most people about this whole Movable Type Licensing thing is the 1 author, 3 weblog restriction.
While I am sure there is a slice of the community who never ever ever would use a piece of software that is licensed inappropriately, the impression most people have (I think) and I had was that MT 3.0 was actually crippled unless you bought the proper version. This is untrue, as I am currently helping a friend install 3.0, and as you can see, you can add as many blogs and authors as you'd like. Now take that as you will, I am not saying that you *should* illicitly use their software like this, I am just trying to clear up a misconception.
The other misconception is using multiple weblogs (for things like linkside bars, audioblogs, etc) collaborated into one website (url), like gtmcknight.com, is counts as *one* weblog in their licensing.
To all these bloggers outraged at the prices, which are a bit steep for what you get, license wise, IMO, I say it's not worth leaving your beloved blogware behind for a free alternative, but rather pay what you feel is fair, and will let you sleep at night. This is, of course, coming from somebody who *steals* mp3s all day long instead of buying CD's in order to have enough money to go see all the artists in concert (giving them more money in the end anyway). Are these legal solutions to problems? No, but I slept quite well last night ;)
ps. the movable type 3.0 backend's facelift rocks.
