Why Maxthon Is The Best

I think everyone can appreciate this, even the Firefox fans. Maxthon (formerly MyIE2) is an IE replacement browser. It uses IE's engine (but can use BOTH!), but delivers quite a few more features that I find indispensible. I will now try to convince you to download it (which is completely free) by showering you with features.

MOZILLA RENDERING: I just discovered this one, and I don't even see it mentioned anywhere on the features page of their website. If you right click on the New Window button (far most left button on default setup) you can click ON AND OFF whether to use the gecko engine. This means I can have two tabs right next to each other, IN THE SAME WINDOW, both pointing to gtmcknight.com, with one on IE rendering and one on Gecko and while flipping back and forth, I can see the exact differences. I don't know why this isn't been mentioned more but I see this as a huge selling point. I know alot of people who prefer the whole mozilla thing, even if (for instance) IE replacements like Maxthon are better than both. Now there's not much of an excuse.

Tabbed Browsing: If you are a regular IE user, you will never have had this, and if you are a Firefox user you know it rocks. Tabbed browsing lets you surf multiple pages at once, but in one consoldated window. Definitely much easier than all those IE windows spread along your taskbar. You can also drag tabs and double click them to close. Also, you can set tabs to be saved, so when you reopen Maxthon you are right back where you started.

Ad Hunter/Pop-up Blocker: Well firefox has had it, and IE just got it with Service Pack 2, but I just wanted to note that it's here too. The Ad-Hunter actually blocks banner ads on pages (which you can customize based on domain as well).

Auto-Hide: If you turn on this feature, all the toolbars are hidden so you basically have fullscreen browsing all the time. If you move your mouse to the top the toolbars appear, in the exact manner as when you set the taskbar to auto-hide. To see how what I'm talking about check out my screencam.

I honestly could go on forever about this browser. There's other nice little features like Drag & Drop (which allows you to drag a link to open it in a new tab) plugins like FlashSave (lets you easily save embedded flash files) and skins (the Safari one rocks). My only complaint is sometimes when an external program starts up a page (like gmail notifier) and Maxthon isn't open yet, it opens the page but not all of my previous tabs. As long as Maxthon is open though, I haven't had any problems.

You can see screenshots of most of the features I described here. Try it out, you'll like it.

ps. This was not a paid advertisement but should've been ;). Actually Maxthon works off of donations, so if you like it let them know with $.

I like this Maxthon browser. Good things... it seems it has a ton O options. So do you prefer it over Firefox? Also, Infinite Cat is new to me too... hilarious.

I actually use a similar IE engined one called avant browser. Its version 10 just came out. Very similar maxthon. It has cool things like a button that opens all links on a page, autorefreshing, built in XML reader (great for testing your xml feeds), plus all the tabbed and contained browseing stuff and ability to stop flash, java, addons from loading. Its what I use when im doing lots of webwork. Im guessing its the same as maxthon though.

wayne: Actually I used to use avant first, but got swayed into MyIE2 (now Maxthon) because of the autohide toolbars and the drag and drop link thing. Avant seems to have picked up the autohide but I think the drag and drop is still exclusive to Maxthon. But ya, they are basically the same thing.
