If your school is on it, your probably addicted. Thefacebook is like a friendster for college students only, and everyone I know (well almost everyone) has gone through the compulsive "check every 15 minutes" stage. But I'm not here to give you an intro... I wanted to briefly discuss a few lesser known things about thefacebook.com
According to this article on The Stanford Daily, the creators of facebook have created an integrated filesharing app called Wirehog. It will allow you to share files across friends in your profile, and is being tested at 5 (most likely ivy league) schools before a larger roll out. It is supposedly meant for sharing photos and documents but we all know there will be a good amount of music/movie sharing too. I'm psyched. If we go on the assumption that it will next be rolled out to the second biggest schools it is a pretty good bet that UF will be one of those. This theory lies on the fact that their Advertising Rates are based on the amount of people signed up at that school, and UF has one of the larger ad rates (at $15 a day).
Another interesting tidbit is that Simpson College has theirt own customized version at simpsonfacebook.com, though I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's not even associated with the real one, but it's one hell of a knockoff.
My other issues are two exploits in facebook. The first is a documented Multiple Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability that can allow somebody to create a link that would run a malicious script. The easiest way around this is not to click those links in peoples profiles, but instead just type the url in. The other 'exploit' is a funner one, first demonstrated to me by a group that Pete Kasser created called 'thegatorfacebook' (only viewable to UF students). Basically, it lets you restyle a page with css, because while the programmers of FB took care to strip html tags out of all the fields, they forgot to strip the "Officer Title" field, when editing members of a Group. An example can be seen here.
I gtg, I have some poking to do.
Update: I also found out that when you first sign up, they forgot to strip html from the field you enter your name...which is no use to people that are already on facebook, but those that have yet to sign up might keep that in mind.

On facebook, they don't allow people to look at the profiles of people who aren't designated "friends" or who don't go to their school. Any idea how I can get around this and see any profile I want. Thanks for any help.
