The 2004 Recap

Posted on 12.31.04. Tagged with , , , All

I did more this year than any year in my entire life. Amazingly enough, it was also the year I choose to take a photo a day to capture all these memories.

And now, an exhaustive list of memorable events (and photos)....

New Years Eve 2003 with KG and T$, Iffy and Tiffy, our pet gerbils (and taking them out for walks), trips to the beach, leading SIC with Marvin, Josh's amazing parties, Gasparilla, experimenting with light, dinner with this guy, viewing life from a different perspective, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, New vows of love, and broken ones (my parents got divorced), that girl, spending $100 on a pair of shoes, new desktop (that I'm still paying off), burning dvds, getting a paycheck from something that *isnt* a bike shop, going to California for Coachella, Serena, growing my hair out, Mexico (again), seeing my sister grow up, Driving to Chicago, p-p-p-powerbook, seeing Kurt Vonnegut speak, summer school, 4th of July on the roof, beating Super Mario Bros, Al, his dog, and his damn fine meals, getting my first apartment, Turning 21 and going to Vegas, First (and last) Blackout, Hurricane Season and days off, iPod Mini, Football games, One night stands, Thanksgiving with my family, rasterbating, experimenting with multiple frames, subtleness, and motion, freezing in Chicago, and time travel.

Things I've learned (and relearned) in 2004:
Relationships with people are the most important thing in life. Friends, Family, Lovers are really what it's all about.

Project 365:
Best idea ever. I love being able to look back and see my past year in photos. I plan to continue, but would love to hear your comments, suggestions, praises and criticisms about the project in general, or any of the photos. It's damn hard to take an interesting photo a day, so there are quite a few boring ones, but quite a few gems IMO too. I think I will add captions for next year. I've learned alot along the way about framing, lighting, perspective and timing. Thanks to all those who put up with me luggin my camera everywhere and snapping pictures of their lives as well. Sometimes its hard to pick just one photo, so here are a few of the shoots that had more than one worthwhile shot: Beach, University of Tampa Towers, Tara, Car Hover.

Everyone have a Happy New Year, and feel free to share worthwhile moments and things you learned in the comments.

hmm.. well first of all, I learned that this whole "Project 365" thing was just a huge tease. Thanks for making everyone wait a whole year to finally understand what you've been up to :-P

Although camera-phones don't have nearly as good quality as actual cameras, they can be really convenient (i've learned) since you carry your phone with you everywhere, and if you have internet on your phone and a moblogging account (such as textamerica) then you can upload pictures with captions directly from your phone just after snapping the photo. Now maybe one of these days they'll make a noteworthy camera phone...

I just want to say that I really enjoyed spending even just a snapshot a day with you every day this year.. Good luck keeping up project 365 for 2005 :-)

I've loved Project 365 from the start. I just wish you made more entries like this one.

Thanks for giving me something to look forward to when signing online all throughout the year.

Erm..Doesn't look like the HTML worked. When I referred to "this one," I meant your very first entry on Project 365.

By "this one" you mean multiple photos in one day?

Day One was cool indeed, but the best "photo" in there is without a doubt the one with the multiple frames [ http://gtmcknight.com/365/2004/12/16/ ].

I know, 3rd comment, but I wanted to say that one of my favorites of your 365 photos is http://gtmcknight.com/365/2004/03/20/index.php ..I think it's because it's showing action (the kiss) and reaction (the guy taking a picture and the lady smiling)..it's the kind of photos I like to see for some reason :o)

I don't think it's been mentioned on your site yet, but nominations for the 2005 bloggies are underway! Project 365 is ideal for the "Best Photography of a Weblog" category, and the rest of your site could be nominated for "Best American Weblog," "Best Non-Weblog Content of a Weblog Site," "Most Humorous Weblog," "Best Writing of a Weblog," "Best-Designed Weblog," "Lifetime Achievement," and none other than "Weblog of the Year."

Best of luck with the nominations and voting, and I hope you get to come to Austin this year for SXSW for the awards :-)
