Like I mentioned in LaLaLinks, reading Iwillteachyoutoberich.com motivated me to take an active approach to my finances. I will be on my own in a few months and I figured it's time. I know that my just hoping money matters work out was never an optimal strategy, but I guess I can admit that having my parents to fall back on was this huge comfort net. Now that I can't make those kind of mistakes (without racking up huge credit card debt) I am being smart about it. I grabbed my copy of Microsoft Money and am slowly trudging through the fun of creating a budget. Fortunately, MS Money sucks up statements from both my bank website and my credit card website so looking at past spending is a breeze so far. I'd love to hear any of your budgeting stories or tips.
On a similar note, I love my Providian Visa. Now I don't know if many or all credit cards online are doing this but Providian provides you with a free credit score tracker, telling you your credit rating every month for the last year (with a graph ta boot). I'm obsessed with tracking things, so now I can add my credit score to my ongoing list with my music and keys typed.
My one budgeting tip I can offer is to save money on food.. Buy eggs, milk, cheese and bread, the possibilities are endless.
