I've heard a lot about you

Person 1: Hey Person 2, meet Person 3
Person 2: Oh hey Person 3, I've heard a lot about you
Person 3: Runs away because Person 1 is a psycho

It has been discussed around my apartment that the phrase "I've heard a lot about you" or "So THIS is who I've heard so much about" etc are never ever appropriate. An example would be when your parents meet your psuedo girlfriend, or when you meet friends friends etc.

Why? Well it makes Person 1 sound like they can't stop talking about Person 3. Even if they only briefly mentioned them in passing conversation one Tuesday a week ago. It's just weird. Trust me.

This is because of me and my pseudo-boyfriend, and his father, isn't it?

lol.. i think the only time i used that phrase (as person 2) was when first meeting a pseudo-boyfriend's parents. It seemed like not only does their son like to talk about his parents, but that i enjoyed listening about them too. and it sorta flatters the parents when they first meet you, so i don't know.. works out for everyone :-D
