My Career (Part 4)

A follow up to the ever expanding My Career series.

So I graduated college last weekend (April 30th). I'm done! You know what's funny? College used to be an accomplishment, but now getting a bachelors is so common, the first question *everyone* asks when you tell them you are graduating is "When are you going to grad school?". I've had my fill of school for quite some time, and I don't ever want to be a part of the super corporate world, so I feel like I can better spend that time (and $) on learning things in the real world. Anyway, graduation was good, and it was great to see all my family come into town. Graduation money was also a (mostly) unexpected surprise too.

Most people that know me (or have been following along on this site) know my growing passion for web design. To feed this passion, I have taken a position as a Web Developer on the University of Florida Web Administration Team. I've actually been working here part time since 3/25/04 but am happy to make the transition to full time. I find the environment stimulating, I have ample opportunities to learn, and I have to admit it is awfully exciting to be a part of a team that produces content for a website that gets nearly 100,000 hits a day. I also love the fact that every single person I work with is competent and intelligent and has a passion for web standards. I'm sure you know how hard it is to find a job like this :)

Yeah, I think it is very important to really enjoy your job, especially in any IT type job. Theres so much to learn that you have to be in it to really get it.

Congrats on the job Taylor. But you can't fool us...we all know that you just want to stay there so you can pick up the hot college chicks in your leather trousers! :)

Congratulations! Most people (myself included) who have recently graduated from college have had a very hard time finding a job that is web-related that they find worthwile. That is an excellent achievement, better than going to grad school or entering the corporate world.
