WHY: Self-titled Albums

Asserting Ones-self, aka "its just who we are now":

"By calling it 'Hootie and the Blowfish,' we're making the point: This is who we are. It's that simple. We've been away for more than four years, and we're back. Like it or not, this is Hootie & the Blowfish. (Source)

"We wanted to kind of assert ourselves with this album," (Source)

"The idea of self titling the CD is symbolic with the groups break with the past and besides if it was good enough for Led Zepplin's 4th......." (Source)

Why not?
"We haven't used the self-title yet." (Source)

Indecision
"Nobody could agree on the title. We were going to name it ...Another time, Another place. But that didn't happen for some reason. I think indecision won. We thought naming an album was kind of overdone anyway, and we wanted to keep it simple." (Source)

I think I'm going to have to agree with Emily that its just a huge creative cop-out.

Agreed. Seriously, it sucks big. -- esp when trying to organize music by albums on me hard drive.

Obviously their name or band's name is just so impossibly cool that they have to name the album after themselves (sometimes multiple times.) Any other name they would come up with would pale in comparision.

Hey dude...couldn't find any contact info, so I figured I'd mention it here...one of the links up there says 'Poke my sister'.
Just thought I'd point that out.
Have a good one.
