Eventful for Gainesville

(Not to beat a dead horse, but I wrote this for thegainesvillebands.com forums, who's support will be needed if this will get off the ground)

Eventful is a new event listing site that just came out. I think that if the Gainesville community adopted this, it would be very beneficial to venues (more people) and us (no more missing a show). I actually wrote a comparison of concert calendars and decided that Eventful came out on top.

First things first, IT IS FREE. I think paying for concert listings would make my whole point moot.

Why else you should use it:

  1. You can create your own calendar, with events you are attending, just by clicking add.
  2. You can share your calendar and view your friends events
  3. You can add and leave comment on concert listings
  4. You can get notified of new events when they are added by email, rss or ical
  5. It's not just concerts, you can keep track of parties, plays, football games all in one spot.

Three Basic Kinds of Calendars You Can Make:

Location: Keep track of all events in an area. (ex: Gainesville, Fl (All Events))

Location + Type: Keep track of only concerts in an area. (ex: Gainesville, Fl (Concerts))

Personal: Add just the events you are attending, so you can keep track and share with others. (ex: Taylor's Concerts)

Anybody can add an event, so if you have something going on let people know. It is way more organized and congruent than searching around forums for events. I don't want to replace GBdC, I love it, but the forums should be a place to make fun of each other, not keep track of concerts in town.

I know I'm coming across as a geek right now (hey I work for UF webadmin, I can't hide) but I want to make this as ungeeky as possible. You don't need to be a computer guru to use this.

Please let me know your thoughts....

Hey, I think it's a great idea. I don't know about GBdC, but isn't it always easier and simpler when you put things all in the one place? It sounds like a good idea.

I saw your pic there of the football stadium where your office is located. Did you see that stuff on TV the other day showing that there is a nuclear reactor like 200 feet from there? It actually shows up in that pic you posted. And they showed how its a perfect terrorist target because the security is so bad. So watch out for suspicious people down there Taylor!

Don't forget to click on the "Are you going?" link on the event page to show that you're going. (You didn't miss it, it's brand new.)
