Free Money (with a Credit Card)

You know those checks that are included in your credit card bill every month? The ones that say cash me and be automatically enrolled in so-and-so program. I finally caved in and decided to cash the $15 check for Citi Credit Protector (free for the first 30 days, can cancel anytime). I was sure to write down the 800 number on the back of the check first, and set up a Backpack reminder for 2 weeks, which I would then call and cancel. I cancelled and had no problem.

Just about the same time I was calling to cancel the first service, I got 2 more checks saying cash me and be automatically enrolled. I just called and cancelled those today as well. I haven't had any problems. All you have to do is remember to call and cancel (I give it 2 weeks after I cash the check).

I easily made $40 ($15 from Credit Protector, $10 from Just For Me, and $15 from Health Savings Solutions Gold). I suggest you do the same.

I received one of those checks before. I cashed it w/o putting my info on the back of the check. The money was deposited into my account and I was never signed up for anything. It was nice :)

it may seem like a great deal and easy but when you enroll in these things they check your credit and the more times your credit is checked the lower your credit goes.

They don't check your credit for enrolling in a service on your credit card. I work for Citi, which offers the programs he speaks of. Trust me they are not going to check your credit for enrolling in Credit Protector. I do it all the time in fact, they are now offering a $40 rebate for enrolling online. You get an enrollment packet with a rebate coupon and send it back with a reciept. I always cancel when I get the packet, even before I send in the coupon.
