Agreed about the diamonds. They're really sketchy stuff.
There are alternatives, though. greenKarat (http://greenkarat.com/) sells jewelry made with recycled gold and cultured diamonds. Cultured diamonds are actually pretty awesome (http://diamondscultured.com/), 100% real diamonds lab-grown in the USA. (Better living through chemistry!)
