Coffee Addiction

Coffee AddictionCoffee every morning is an addiction I've been trying to avoid since highschool. I didn't want to be like my parents who were barely functional till their morning cup of joe. Don't get me wrong, I drink coffee once in awhile if I stayed up especially late and have to do a lot the next day. I even like the taste of it.

The thing is....I really feel more productive and alive when I have a cup of coffee (well actually espresso w/ milk). I've been arguing with my girlfriend for a few days about the benefits and drawbacks of coffee addiction. I know it's not a good idea to be dependent on any substance but part of me feels that its a worthy sacrifice for getting more stuff done during the day. Hell, even Teddy Roosevelt, considered a truly outstanding president, drank a gallon a day. Of course there are plenty of arguments against coffee addiction as well. Then again I could just do it for a few productive years and then quit.

My other option would be to make sure I get enough sleep, and perhaps run in the morning to wake me up (the added benefit of excercise is a much needed one).

Are you addicted to coffee? Do you regret it? Dear readers, decide my fate.

Disclaimer: I had a Starbucks Doubleshot this morning, which gave me enough energy to write this :-P

Oh I need my coffee. After college it was all over. I can function without it, just a lot slower and with less wit.

As with any drug, with regular use comes tolerance. After a short while that cup 'o joe every morning will do very little for you, although it'll still cost 4.50, and if you don't have it you'll have a much harder time waking up/being productive.

See I told you...Spencer agrees with me that once you have a tolerance, then coffee every morning does little for you. If you have it once in a while, then it will give that extra boost when you really need it. Not to mention that it is an unhealthy habbit and it stains your teeth. Trust me you will regret it.

I'd suggest having coffee at irregular intervals, which works well for me. I might go a couple weeks between drinking it.
Maybe tea is another option to help throw off addictive tendencies. I wonder if tea and coffee alteration helps reduce the risk of addiction.

Although the $4.50 coffee from Starbucks may do little over a period of time, you have to consider there is very little "coffee" in most espresso based beverages. Unless you were to order a Mocha Valencia, or request additional "shots", the most espresso you will get is 2oz.

If you were simply looking for the buzz required to avoid withdrawal, you're better off asking for a short drip coffee. Cheaper over the long run... =)

I will have to admit that I had never tasted a drop of black coffee until we started processing it. How can you sell something if you don't know what is so awesome about it? Now I am slowly getting addicted!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I'm a teenager and my mom totally reduced my caffeine intake to none at all after I got used to drinking like 3 cokes a day. Ever since I've been trying to convince her to let me drink caffeine. I've been looking it up and there are like no negative side effects when you drink 1 or 2 cups a day. Once you go to like 4-5 cups a day you can get insomnia(I can't believe what those geniuses come up with in those high tech labs), shortness of breath, temporary elevation in blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and loss of calcium(which can be negated if you put milk in it. This probably won't affect you since it's been like 2 months but oh well just putting my two cents in.

Don't get addicted to it if you aren't already. I'm trying to quit smoking right now, and caffeine actually seems to be the harder of the two! I look at my friends who can wake up in the early morning and shower and go, and I'm a zombie until I have a cup of coffee. I haven't drank any today yet, and I'm yawning and feel like blah. Occasional frapps at Starbucks or whatever won't hurt, but don't get addicted to waking up with it. It's not worth it.
