So many awesome things going on.
Conferences
SXSW was awesome. Photos will have to do all the talking this year. Scott Kidder and I rocked the Interactive Conference. Kaela and I rocked the Music Festival. I was completely exhausted for like 2 weeks after. God I hope there is a Red Bull House next year.I'll be going to the Florida Music Festival & Conference in Orlando, FL from May 18-20th. Hopefully as press and will also be reppin' Podbop.
Mashup Camp 2 looks like it's been set for July 12-13th in Mountain View, CA. I'd love to go again, but it depends on the money situation. We'll see.
Work
Still love my job at UF Web Administration. Looking forward to the summer when we get most of our creative work done. It's also nice that campus slows down a bit. news.ufl.edu and phonebook.ufl.edu are the projects I've been most proud of being involved with since I've been here.I've been working with Brett Roegiers in bringing the Alligator website up to the 21st century. Right now they hand create each page which as you can imagine is a maintenance nightmare. MovableType is going to power it. Sure it might not be the best app for the job but the most important thing is getting all the stories into a database anyway, then we can import/export them to our hearts content. Besides if it's good enough for Gawker it shoudl be good enough for us :) I'm hoping a majority of the stories will be entered by the end of summer, then my beautiful recode will also be launched. This is a baby step into what Brett and I have real passion for. We want to make the Alligator site as important to the UF community as the newspaper is (just look around campus, more people carry them than iPods). We draw a lot of our inspiration from this April 12, 2006 Miami Herald Memo.
I've also been helping out Gawker Media a bit too. Man do I love working on sites that I enjoy reading anyway.
Podbop development has been slow. Just been busy with other stuff, but still a priority. I'm talking to a few record labels and other companies currently. Daniel and I don't want to rush anything. We'd like to do it right the first time. We have a list of 100+ features we'd like to add. Look for a blog soon ;-)
Play
Photography is pretty much my favorite past time lately. Shooting is so much fun. Editing is such a bitch. No really. That is why it takes 2 weeks for me to update Flickr. The thing is, I do like it and I believe every strong photographer must be a strong editor. It's just time consuming.Anyway, there are two new techniques I am dying to try out and think you should too.
High Dynamic Range: Combining multiple photos, at different exposure settings to get a wide range of detail (you can get the darkest darks and the lightest lights without blowing anything out). Read more at wikipedia and check out the Flickr Group and How-To.
Panography: Combining multiple photos to get a messy panorama look. It's actually a made up word by Hockneyesqye Group (inspired by the work of David Hockey) but a bit messier. I really love it. Check out the Panography Flickr Group
