A follow up to the ever expanding My Career series.
I last left off on when I had just graduated college and decided to continue working at UF Web Administration (transitioning from part-time to full-time).
As things usually seem, the past 16 months have flown by. Most notably, over the past few months UF has begun an IT reorganization plan that involved more meetings, more record keeping, less interesting work and less trust in our expertise. Regardless, for me, our team has always been the most appealing part of my job. Even in my brief experiences, I can acknowledge that getting along so effortlessly with a team is a rare event.
Since March, just after SXSW, I had also been an independent contractor for Gawker Media, working a few hours here and there when something was needed. I found the job challenging and exciting (Gawker's 15 site's total waaay more than 60 million pageviews a month!) with much less bureaucratic overhead. Even since March, Gawker has been pushing the envelope as an online media company with regard to content, features (like Gawker Stalker and Smell Map) and creative advertising (Evian Detox and Sponsored Tags). It is all exciting to be a part of.
Since February, Podbop has been growing nicely as well. Daniel and I improved the layout, improved and added features and re-launched the Podbop Blog with 8 writers from around the country. In just the past few months we have covered the Athens Popfest in Georgia and Bumbershoot in Seattle, and have plans to cover many more in the months to come. I look forward to continuing to build up the blog as well as our main concentration (exposing you to new bands coming to your town).
Today, October 2nd, is my first day not working full-time for UF anymore. I will be working part-time (as a web-dev) at Gawker (remotely, with semi-frequent trips to NYC) and part-time on personal projects (mostly Podbop). More time for Podbop, more time to travel (anytime as long as I have a wifi connection!). I'm so excited.
