Things That I've Loved Recently

Zico Pure Coconut Water: One of the first things I fell in love with when I started going to Mexico a lot were the coco frios you could buy for 10 pesos. They would hack off the top with a machete and throw a straw in. Pure and delicious. These Zico drinks are the exact same thing. Pure coconut water with no additive. Who knew that they also have a handful of electrolytes and more potassium than a banana. Sugary sports drink alternative?

Moleskin Cahier Soft Cover Notebooks (Set of 3): I bought the black version of these while I was in NYC last month and have been using one as a carry-with-me-at-all-time to-do list. It's small and flexible and fits in any pant's front pocket. One of my new year's resolutions to be more on top of things, and this really helps. Whenever I think of anything I'd eventually like to get done (i.e. Get tail-light fixed, book plane tix, write thank-you notes (haven't started)). It's great to not have to try and juggle/remember all those things in my mind at once.

The Accidental Masterpiece: On the Art of Life and Vice Versa: Recommended by the awesome Very Short List, I finished this one in 2 roundtrip flights. Michael Kimmelman is the NY Times chief art critic, and while you think that means this book might be snobby it is anything but. Michael's chapters (each completely seperate stories) carve out the history behind an artist or movement and tie it into his own real-life experiences. I think VSL puts it best, "unpretentious and wise, a book about art the way that Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a guide to tuning small engines. That is, its actually a thinking persons self-help book meant to help everyone look at life with more of an artists sensibility." I highly recommended it. First book I've read in over a year (NYR: Read more books).

SXSW 2007: Like any of you didn't know about this. SXSWeek is March 9-18th and will be my third trek to Austin for this geek meets movie lover meets music lover spring break. Press passes for Podbop have been applied for, plane tickets booked, hotels booked. Now I can stop worrying and start bugging my friends even more about how much I'm looking forward to this.

The Science of Sleep: I was looking forward to this film for quite some time and finally got around to seeing it on UF campus for free with Mark and Kaela. Absolute stunning. Like a beautiful dream, Michel Gondry (the director) smashes fantasy with reality into one. Reminded me of how I felt when I saw Lost In Translation for the first time, that I knew I was experiencing an amazing film and that I'd never get that first-time, I don't know what will happen next feeling ever again. I loved it.

You know.. Kev and I will be in Austin for SXSW week as well (his time here at home, away from Iraq, just happens to land then and we're planning a trip up there). It would be awesome to have lunch with you during a bit of your down time (like there's such a thing during SXSW, but you know what I mean!) I'm going to email you my number.. I don't think I have yours? I thought I did at one point; it might have been on my old phone.
