9:19pm Whenever I am home for a long time I don't want to leave. Sometimes I'm not even that excited to go to NYC to work because I know I'll miss Kaela and my own room and bed. I've only been here since Sunday, and while I do still miss Kaela, I'm already back in love with the city again.
9:20 I bought new black Sketchers after work today. I've been needing a semi-casual (leaning on the casual side) pair of black shoes for awhile. I also picked up 2 pairs of shorts. I know shorts, in general, for men, are somewhat of a fashion faux-pas so it's good that I'm not very fashionable because I love shorts.
9:22 Hold on, gotta flip the record. Last night was my first real experience ever with a record player. I'm cat-sitting for a friend and he has an ah-mazing collection of records. Now I finally get why people are so in love with vinyl. It is FUN to touch the music, in huge black disc form. It is FUN to have to flip it after every 3-4 songs and drop the needle onto the spinning record. And God is it fun to listen to albums like "Saturday Night Fish Fry" and "Groovy Vol. 3: A collection of rare jazzy club tracks" and "Organ Grinders Swing: The Incredible Jimmy Smith". It drags my feet around the living room while people from nearby buildings laugh :)
9:28 Did I mention how great NYC music scene is? Not that it's a secret or anything but I always feel lucky that my visits always line up with bands I want to see. Like CJ Boyd on Friday, Wordless Music Series on Saturday, The Berg Sans Nipple on Sunday, possibly The National the following week. The best for last: The Bang On A Can Marathon starting June 2nd evening, 26 hours of live non-stop music, free, and including Yo La Tengo, The Books & Bang On A Can performing Steve Reich!
9:32 Want to know something crazy? This NYC apartment is bigger than my 4 person apartment in Gainesville, FL. Did I mention I love it here? Their cats are super nice too!
9:33 Went with Anthony last night to a free presentation on Landmark Education. Some cult-esque organization that helps people accomplish what they want in life. Anthony swears by it, and I don't think it's that awful, but it's not my thing. I'd rather work on my shortcomings myself (haha I guess I'm stubborn).
