The Story of Maretti

The story of Maretti tile begins in the late Middle Ages as the original Maretti ancestors, who were Bologna region farmers and wine producers, began forming individual painted tiles from the natural materials of the earth. Each tile was an artistic expression baked in the hot summer sun to a durable and beautiful art piece.

The beauty of the tiles inspired local builders of religious buildings, palaces and villas to use the tiles first as decorative accents and later in larger areas as durable yet artistic wall coverings and flooring.
