The Story of Maretti

The story of Maretti tile begins in the late Middle Ages as the original Maretti ancestors, who were Bologna region farmers and wine producers, began forming individual painted tiles from the natural materials of the earth. Each tile was an artistic expression baked in the hot summer sun to a durable and beautiful art piece.

The beauty of the tiles inspired local builders of religious buildings, palaces and villas to use the tiles first as decorative accents and later in larger areas as durable yet artistic wall coverings and flooring.

Generations of Italians like the Maretti family from the Bologna region continued the vision as word of their tile art and manufacturing process spread through Italy and southern Europe. The tiles became much sought after by royalty and others of high positions in society.

By the early 1950's, the Bolognese had created manufacturing processes that allowed mass production of the much sought after tiles that maintained the same "made one at a time in the Italian summer sun" quality. Bologna became the center of the ceramic market for the world.

Today, Maretti Ceramica continues the tradition of manufacturing fine Italian tiles. Importing from manufacturers worldwide but carefully retaining the quality and artistic integrity of the Maretti tradition, Maretti USA offers the finest in glazed porcelain floor tiles which are noted for styling, quality, and value.
